Detroit May Day 2025 and Beyond: Epic Good for All

Detroit May Day 2025 is vital for the local communities and also the country, and even the world. Here’s a good current article that spells out the unique power organized labor has to defeat Trumpism. Maybe you already know that a high level of solidarity is the key – it’s what the bad guys worry about.

The point is this. Your hope for better life is well-founded, and it comes through organized solidarity of the working class. This upcoming May Day is an important milestone to help stop the ongoing assault against American life.

We need to show May Day and workers’ rights a little love

There is nothing in May Day for the oligarchs and the puppet establishment politicians. They have suppressed even the idea of May Day, while bringing our country to its current failing state. It is time to listen to the people and break the cycle of modern slavery.

Workers and activists around the world mark May Day with rallies, calling for higher salaries, reduced working hours (no forced overtime) and better working conditions. We are doing that in Detroit too, to celebrate and demand workers’ rights. It will fall on or around May 1st.

Government leadership has lost its way, so we the people again have to save ourselves. So, here comes Detroit May Day 2025. Unions, and all workers who aspire for better life, are the nucleus of power.

The oligarchs created a class war, and they are winning it, but only for the moment

Oligarchs (super rich people with outsized political influence) are all in for Trump. Because, they know he will slash corporate tax rates, do away with worrisome regulations, and cripple labor movements. These capitalist forces have been having their way for decades.

Now, Trump is letting them swoop in for the kill. This is possible because MAGA war lords (like Bannon) have been pitting sections of the working class against each other – the older industries against the college-educated professionals.

Sadly, people no longer have real representation. At least, not nearly enough. We are not a functioning democracy in these days. The two parties are stylistically different, but they serve the same big money masters. Dems collect even more than the GOP; this is why Dems have no organized dissent in response to Trump’s pillage. And the Dems “leader” Jefferies is owned by AIPAC, which means he is all in on the ethnic cleansing. And on and on if you let it. We must stop this. I don’t think we need any more about how bad it is.

So, we the people can win it all back. And this is where things like the Detroit May Day need to get us started. Here is an idea of what we need to work toward:

  1. Build solidarity and understanding among the workers and the not-too-large business and entrepreneurs, and other marginalized people like the poor or victimized; unite against cruel capitalists and their stooge politicians.
  2. Use this solidarity to get the right candidates and win government elections. This means working for a shared reality of MAGA and anti-MAGA folks. Oligarchs are the prime enemy of the people.
  3. Work to keep the working class unified, not falling victim to corruption and immorality. Set a platform that embraces all the people, gets the money out of politics, and makes capital subordinate to labor.

This Detroit working class effort is inclusive and antifascist

Please don’t get hung up on the fascist-antifascist turmoil. If you think about it, we are all antifascists now, at least the vast majority. Union solidarity (and May Day) is not for fascism or the racism it implies.

Fascists push to make people submit. But, there is no safety or relief in submission. Acts of refusal and shows of resistance in the coming days are increasingly important. Working class solidarity, as expressed through May Day, is the opposite of fascism.

Solidarity needs and respects everybody, meeting them where they are

Working people will prevail in solidarity. It does not matter if you are conservative or liberal, or if you are not able to work. Solidarity respects all religious faith, and sees it as separate from the government.

Trump betrayed his voters, including union members, with his economic lies and phony populism. His betrayal is starting to come clear to the working class MAGA folks. The money Trump and Musk are playing with belongs to the people. The Detroit May Day community is not going for it. Please join in.
